My attempts to convince any of my friends or family that the 2016 Focus RS needs to be their next car, have failed. I thought that I had one on the hook, but he didn’t want to dick around with the ordering process (can’t blame him), then decided he didn’t need fun car (which is nonsense).
I’m automatically assuming that this is a car that you will not get a test drive in until the second model year. So, have any Oppos ordered, or are you planning to?

I think you should buy one, and then I’ll trade you my ST for it.
My ST has a Baymax sticker in the window. It is priceless.

I’m considering Leasing (I prefer the flexibility to the equity right now) one if they will let me. Its on the list of cars im looking at right now.

Waiting for second or third model year. The boss and st will be paid for in a year and a half. 6 to 8 months with no car payment and then bam! my modern ford collection will be complete. Only because the gt and gt 40 is out of reach.

Too much dealership bullshit at this point.
The people I know who would buy one don’t want to deal with the lack of test drives and “market adjustment”.

My wife will be looking at purchasing in about 18 months. STI and FocRS are on the top of her list right now. So, um, ~30% likelihood we'll order one.

I think you’re 100% right, there will be no test drives. I’d go a step further and say there’d be no leasing opportunities either, since dealers are getting an allocation for them and in the beginning they’ll be bought up.
To be honest, I’ve been a little disappointed with my ‘13 FocuST in its track durability (severe heat soak and brakes that melt even with high temp fluid and race pads), and I cant help but extrapolate those frustrations to the RS. I understand that most cars are not able to be tracked off the showroom floor, but the ST was sort of marketed that way, and the RS sure as hell is.
My ST2 was $26,667 out the door (with all taxes and fees), so in my mind it’s hard to qualify a $13,000 (50%) premium over an ST.

I would like to get one as my next DD, except I’m not thrilled with driving a manual in traffic. I might get a M235i xDrive instead.

Yea I hear ya, I was disappointed to find out that I could not get a manual on my S3 but I don’t miss it when commuting.

I would really like to and probably could afford it if I were willing to stretch my finances, but I’d have to stretch them quite a bit, and I’m not willing to accept that much risk for a car I can’t even sit in first. Although I’m sure it will be a sweet car. Right now my best bet is to snag one on the used market in a couple more years.
Then again, if the Fusion ST/RS/whatever comes out next year, I might lean more toward one of those...

If you put a deposit down I would assume that they would let you drive it before you finalize the deal, but still that a lot of BS just for a test drive.

I wanted to but i can’t wait until the Spring. I need a car before then. I was looking at several different cars and wanted to get an STi. Decided on a MK7 GTI as it was cheaper and the better MPG is also an added benefit.

I was kind of in the same boat. I only had a few months left on the warranty for my E90 M3 and I wanted to flip it before it ended. VW said Feb 2016 at the earliest for a Golf R. The Focus RS was not yet offered. I briefly considered the STi, but I owned an 04 STi and not a whole lot has changed with the STi since then. So I ended up with an S3 which I’m happy with.

I just called around on October 1 (the day when some of the dealers started taking orders) and then again on October 12 (when the order books opened). Ended up putting a thousand dollar deposit at two different dealers. One gave me a vague “market adjusted price” and the other gave me msrp+3000. I’ll see which one ends up being cheaper and cancelling the other order.
I’ll definitely put up something on oppo once I have the fors. I currently own a sonic blue focus svt so I can’t wait to have the two of them together.

I’ve thought about it, but I’m put off by the lack of test drives and would have to sell or trade my E46 M3 and then sit in a Ford interior and use an infotainment system, and without a test drive I’m not sure enough any of that would be worth it.

As a fellow e46 M3 owner I would advise against ditching it for an RS haha. Agree about the interior.
